Ways to Improve Your Hiring Process

Bringing in new employees is a very important part of the business cycle. When companies expand, it enables growth. It also affects a person’s life to have the chance to join a great company that they were striving towards.

Right now, with the unemployment rate low, it is critical to pay attention to how your company is attracting new employees.

There are a few things a company can do to create a good candidate experience throughout the hiring process:

  • Write a thorough job description and pay attention to grammatical/spelling errors- Consider what you are looking for and what key skills an employee needs. Be clear about listing nice-to-haves and clearly label them as nice-to-haves. Remember the job description is often the first thing a candidate sees about your company.
  • Pay attention to employer brand- Take a look at your company’s career page and social media pages. Make it clear why candidates should want to work for you.
  • Involve more people in the hiring process- Interviewing is an important way for the company to get to know the candidate, but it is also an important way for the candidate to get to know the company. Set up interviews with peers, executives, and the hiring manager so that all parties can get to know each other.
  • Ask questions tailored to the position- While creative interviewing is a way to get to know the candidate, it tends to make candidates uncomfortable. Focus on discussing the position, their background, and the goals of the company when bringing in the new person.
  • Provide candidate surveys after an in-person interview- Find out what the candidates thought about the process, and use these suggestions to improve future hiring.
  • Encourage candidates to ask questions- Questions can both give candidates the information they need to make a decision about working at your company, as well as enable the interviewer to see the candidate’s thought process and what is important to them.
  • Provide clarity around location, dress code, and parking- Enable the candidate to have the best possible experience when they know all of the pertinent information on the interview.

It is important to be careful about your hiring process, and incorporate every factor necessary for the prospective employee to make a choice, and also get all the information you need to make a smart hiring decision.
