The Old Work Contract Is Over

Last week marked my 2 year anniversary with CSI International.  I got the yearly service recognition emails, phone calls and acknowledgement from my colleagues and supervisors.  I got the points in my Employee Recognition portal.  I felt very valued and acknowledged and grateful to be part of such an awesome organization for these past 2 years.

But the best part isn’t or wasn’t being recognized annually for being part of this team.  The best part of working at CSI is in the day-to-day recognition and acknowledgement that I get.  The best part is being in a workplace where I am enabled with skills and competencies to learn and grow and be the best I can be.  To be given the freedom and autonomy to make smart decisions and sometimes mistakes and still be supported.  To be given the trust and flexibility that I will make good decisions in my day activities.  The best part is being rewarded with mentorship from face-to-face interactions with our senior team (and I’ll admit that since they’re in sunny California, a week away from Toronto in the dead of winter sweetens the deal).  The best part is getting to know my colleagues beyond the jobs they do, and developing lasting and meaningful relationships with them that make us a stronger team at work.

There are many organizations out there that think they can create loyalty and employee engagement by merely celebrating someone’s existence every 5, 10, 15 or more years.

I know creating employee engagement and loyalty, is about more than just being recognized for career milestones.  The best organizations know that creating employee engagement (and customer loyalty) is about creating exceptional experiences with each and every interaction (for more on this check out the Top 10 Reasons to Transition Your Service Anniversary to a Performance Recognition Program).

In the age of technology and automation –- today more than ever, your employees (and your customers) want personalized, authentic recognition.

I’d love to hear in the comments the things you love that your company does to enable you and your team!
