Short visit to Chicago for training

MA Jinnah Way Devon

On my recent visit to Chicago for Corptax training, I checked in on Foursquare when I got to O’Hare International Airport and shared it on Facebook and Twitter. I don’t always post to Facebook my Foursquare checkins, but when I do, I am pleasantly surprised.

A friend from college, who once told me he might move to Chicago is actually in Chicago and has been for over 2 years. Great.

He hits me up and we go to Devon street which is a “must visit” place if you are Desi. This street is famous for its Pakistani restaurants, shops and the whole “desi” experience. We eat dinner at Sabri, then have desert at Tahoora. On a different day, he takes me to Devon Street again and this time we eat at Usmania and grab some food “to-go” from Ghareeb Nawaz.

Downtown Chicago

I also got a chance to visit Chicago downtown, which to my surprise is very clean and walk-able unlike San Francisco. We visited “The Bean” and walked around Millennium Park. After, we also went to Willis Tower. Unfortunately, due to evening fog and cloudy skies, my view from 1700 feet wasn’t that great but still, worth the money.

The Bean

In all, it was a great experience and a memorable short visit. Everything was wonderful minus the weather.

FYI – Facebook, if used responsibly, can yield some great results in uncharted territories.

My name is Zahid and I have been blogging since 2006. During this time, I got married, graduated, started a career, had a son, and bought my first home – in that order. I was born in Karachi and raised in Dubai where I lived for 19 years before moving to California in 2002 to pursue my Undergrad. I graduated with a B.Sc. in Accounting from SF State. I now live in the city of San Jose, at the heart of Silicon Valley. I currently work as a corporate tax accountant at a tech startup in SF. Before that, I worked at one of the Big 4 tax and audit firms. In another life, I would have been a writer, a journalist, a photographer, and startup investor. That’s why, you will find me blogging about writing, journalism and news media, photography and travel, and new tech startups and products.
