Samsung’s Galaxy Tablet: Merch Monday

Ever since the unveiling of the iPad last year, the consumer electronics world has been keeping an eye out for something to challenge it. Samsung hopes to rise to that challenge with their Galaxy Tab.

Watered-down, it’s a tablet form of their Android powered Galaxy S phone, except with a little more juice and obviously – a larger screen. The Galaxy measures smaller in size than the iPad at 7-inches, making for the experience of being able to carry a computer around in your pocket. For comparison sake, it’s described as being roughly the same size as a Kindle.

On to the tech specs, Galaxy isn’t a slouch in that department. The Android 2.2 powered device boasts a 1GHz processor that makes it one of the fastest tablets on the market. It also has Adobe Flash capabilities (a trick iAnythings haven’t learned yet), a micro SD card slot, up to 64GB of storage space along with two cameras: a normal camera AND a front facing camera for video conferencing.

One of the redeeming features of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is its multimedia capabilities. It taps into Samsung’s wide variety of media options via its MediaHub, providing over 1000 titles of TV shows alone pricing around $1.99 an episode. The device’s 1080p playback provides a great viewing experience for the user. The Galaxy Tab also is described has having a great interface for playing music.

The Galaxy Tab looks to have a predecessor following it sometime in the near future in the form of Galaxy 2. Rumor has it that will run on the new Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS along with a few other tech specs. We will see what actually comes about.

What do you all think? Other than this and the tablets mentioned on this post from CES, what other tablets look to make waves on the market?
