Long-Term Political Calculus

Commenter Ross, from Austin, responding to a New York Times Op-Ed on President Obama and the mid-term election:

Obama’s political calculus was right on the money, even if the execution and PR sales job were flawed. Nothing Obama and the Democrats in Congress could have done in 2009-10 would have made enough of a dent in unemployment to prevent large losses in the midterm. So he chose to focus on the big long-term agenda items that will pay off for the country long after he’s left office.
