HR pros need to acquire and maintain fluency key IT applications, including applicant tracking systems and cloud-based software, says Perficient HR Director Trish McFarlane.
McFarlane also says networking — both online and off — is vital for HR professionals and especially recommends they get active on Twitter. “For me joining Twitter several years ago — even though I didn’t understand yet what that could mean from a business perspective — it was really important because I was able to meet online other HR professionals and other technology professionals so that I felt like I had a human being to reach out to instead of someone I didn’t know,” she explains.
She suggests HR professionals ask the experts they connect with on Twitter for recommendations about best practices and what to read to learn more. That will help them improve and prepare for bigger and better HR jobs down the road.
