Impacts of Technology on Recruiting

We are living in a very technologically focused world, it is impossible to go to many public places without seeing at least a few people on phones and laptops.

But how has this impacted the hiring process and how can recruiters and human resources ensure we maintain a good candidate experience throughout the process?

  • A lot of communication is currently via email, instant messenger, and text messages, even professionally. It is important to remember when to pick up a phone and call someone. If you are delivering important or time-sensitive news, it might be best to pick up the phone and make a call.
  • Many new job applications go automatically into a system to get reviewed. It is important to keep a timely approach to these applications, and to let candidates know if they will be moving forward, but also if they will not be moving forward.
  • There are a lot of tools to find new candidates for positions- job boards, social media, add-in tools. It is important to carefully evaluate all tools and also to think about how to best approach candidates using each tool.
  • Pressures on candidates have changed- job seekers often have many interview processes at one time, and many processes are maintained through email-some even include online assessments before an interview. It can be difficult to follow the new processes of each company. It is important to tell the candidate what to expect out of your process, and what they will be asked to do at each step so they are able to complete the process.

In a constantly changing world, it is important to keep in mind how the changes impact job seekers and to maintain a strong candidate experience throughout the process.
