HTC Malaysia, Chalkboard Launch Hyper-Local Promotions Widget for Android

Hyper-local media startup Chalkboard partnered with HTC Malaysia to release a nifty location-aware widget that enables users to discover local deals and promotions using HTC Android devices.

chalkboard android widgetThe widget acts like a location-aware promotions broadcaster, displaying users nearby restaurants, stores, and other businesses, within a 5-kilometer radius. In addition to promotions, users can also get information like business address and phone number, with map to guide users to business locations. The Chalkboard widget works on all HTC devices that run Android 2.1 and above. Download here.

“HTC is proud to provide a richer experience for our users by incorporating Chalkboard – a service that works with thousands of local businesses – on our innovative handhelds,” said SK Wong, Country Manager of HTC Malaysia.

He continued, “Consumers are relying more and more on their mobile devices to give them ready access to the local information they want. HTC is proud to bring this service to all our Malaysian users.”

The HTC partnership enables Chalkboard to further expand its user base. More users will encourage more merchants to use its location-based ads network (Chalkboard currently has over 4,000 local business customers). More merchants, in turn, will lure even more users. In short, setting off positive feedback loop.

In Malaysia, retailers only pay RM360 per annum to be listed on Chalkboard ads network. During the 1-year subscription period, retailers can post unlimited promotion ads to unlimited number of users, across every major mobile device platform and the web.

Chalkboard is the largest location-based network of its kind in the Southeast Asia region. The company was founded in February 2010 by Saumil Nanavati (CEO) and Bernard Leong (CTO), with Neoteny Labs as investor. The company has business operations in Singapore, Malaysia and US. Next target market is Indonesia (and other Asian countries).
