Most people would agree that the word community is now firmly placed in the social recruiting world. It doesn’t matter whether that community is a LinkedIn group or a Facebook group (private) / Facebook Wall or a Twitter community etc. It is all about engagement. The more engaged the members of the community are, the more they will share, help, assist, promote and even refer information, jobs and content with their own networks.
And for all you ‘big is the best’ social media ‘advisors’ – that is crap – you don’t need 1000’s of members to have an engage group of like minded people, providing value for one another.
But what if you are just starting off and are still unsure what to do to get started building your own social recruiting community?
I came across this excellent presentation on Slideshare by Kristof Nizet. He has put together a short slide deck on how to get started building your community. As I have said – the platform is not important – your approach to growing it is.
So whichever group of people you are looking to engage with, take note of Kristof and his approach to understanding what you want first. It isn’t just a question of being assumptive – be creative and engaging instead.
