Create Your Small Business Identity Online in 3 Easy Steps

There are still many small businesses that haven’t embraced the world wide web, let alone social media. Are you one of them? If yes then this post is for you. Here are three easy steps that require you have a credit card and 10 minutes of free time.

Step 1

Register your small business name by going to the #1 domain registrar in the world, GoDaddy.com. You can usually find many coupon codes on Fatwallet and RetailMeNot. Don’t worry about .net or .org, your goal is to get a .com. If .com isn’t available for your business, .net will also work. Make sure your domain name is not very long, can be easily memorized and doesn’t contain any hyphens.

Step 2

Now that you have a domain, move on and signup for web hosting. I don’t recommend signing up for GoDaddy web hosting because it is not considered to be user friendly. All my websites are hosted by HostGator and few of my clients are using WebHostingPad. Haven’t had any issues with them in terms of down time and support. The price is reasonable and you get discounts for signing up for a year. Weight your requirements, contact me if you need help with deciding.

Step 3

When I said 10 minutes is all you need, I wasn’t kidding. To compete on the internet today you need to have a robust backend and user friendly frontend. The only way to achieve that is by using WordPress as your backend. Most people think of WordPress as a blogging platform but it is much more than that. Head over to ThemeForest and look at all the amazing WordPress themes available that you can use for any kind of business.

Let’s recap:

1) Register your small business domain name at GoDaddy.
2) Get web hosting at HostGator or WebHostingPad.
3) Use WordPress as your backend and select a theme from ThemeForest.
