Mike,
Thanks so much for your kind comment. David Rock laid the groundwork for a core model that can be adapted to use within every layer of organizational practice. And, yes, it won't be easy. For most leaders, it will require a steep learning curve. The good news is that most people I meet in the course of my work within organizations are receptive, even enthusiastic about this knowledge. It provides a rationale for so much interpersonal communication that takes place within the work...

Dear Jerry,

I am wiping away the tears after reading your beautiful tribute to your beloved. I am so sad for your loss. In these moments we realize the limits of language - but never the limits of the human heart. May your dear partner in life rest in peace and may you find comfort and solace.

I want to thank you for supporting my work and the voices of so many other wonderful bloggers who appreciate the community you have created.

Sincerely,

Hi Stuart,
So pleased you joined the conversation. It's the kind of comment that deserves another post, but I'll be brief. First, I found the post you linked very interesting - I recommend that readers take a look. I too find that change is often an agonizingly slow process. Oppression, in its many guises and forms, has a long, long history.

Hi Mike,
Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. I've always loved the phrase from the poet Rainer Maria Rilke about "living in the questions." I don't think that's something this culture invites or tolerates much of. Yet, there are times, I believe like those we are living in now, where we must stop and contemplate the questions. As I have watched the discussions (and debates) over the meaning, purpose and value of the Occupy movement, one (and there are many) thing that reall...

Valuable post. Enjoyed the post! I think you are on point making the connection between the emerging knowledge from brain science and the future of management. I think that we'll look back on this period as the "dark ages" of how we designed policy and management practices, in light of the understanding of how humans function and motivate themselves. Hi Mark - am so with you on this. With all the hyberbole we hear about leadership and fearless management, etc. these people are the real leaders. In fact, I think we can all learn something of value from the way in which the general Japanese population is managing such horrendous circumstances and what must be sheer terror on many levels.

Thanks for writing such a thoughtful post!

Hi Angie - thanks very much for your generous comments - and for sharing the post on LI, much appreciated! It's also been our experience, in our coaching and consulting, that the integration of neuroscience knowledge has been exceptionally helpful. Like turning on a light switch. People are amazed at the knowledge of their own self-process. Actually attempts at understanding and changing long term behavior without it seem like bicycling backwards.

Hi Mark - The numbers are growing but I think David Rock's book - Your Brain at Work - is excellent - and specifically applicable to management issues.

This is such an important issue. So glad you are raising it here.

"The extreme version of this is including stock options as a serious component of executive pay. This philosophy creates a context of excessive short-term orientation where unethical behavior is more likely. If companies link payment to stock prices, they are creating a false god. Belated thanks for the comments to Greg Jensen and Terrence Seamon - so glad you appreciated this post. Agree with you both - silence, quiet is MUCH needed in every corner of the our lives. Sometimes we think it will take hours of silence to experience it's benefits - when often 5 or ten minutes works its magic.

thanks again!
