Information Retention

If you can’t retrieve the knowledge or information when you need it, then it is pretty much worthless.

The only way for content, competencies, and information to be effectively retained and retrieved is by layering in the knowledge.

Retention is important, but retrieval is critical.

The cumulative effect of layering in skills and competencies, then giving the individual a chance to practice, drill, rehearse and integrate that skill or competency into their tool box will produce a noticeable and significant effect.

However, when you talk to the learner he or she will tell you that the process was not cumbersome or burdensome.

In fact, they most frequently will say, “It is almost like a whole new set of tools showed up in my toolbox seamlessly!”

So, whether you are trying to train your dog, educate your child, or develop a leader, the key is to layer in information and reinforce it with repetition.
